[Following is a volunteer review of "We are Voulhire: Someone Else's End" by Matthew Tysz.]
WE ARE VOULHIRE: Someone Else's End is the third book of We are Voulhire series by Matthew Tysz. After becoming the new Eiodi of Yamon Soul, Lord Meldorath has been keen on acquiring the notes of King Javikun. The knowledge from these notes would enable him to bend through time and space, to communicate with the Caromentis world. King Wilhelm was in tight custody of these notes, and he wasn’t willing to release them.
Rowan took Galen and Demetrius along with him to his hometown Soulhire. They attended one of the royal events at the Cathidien so that they could meet King Wilhelm. Upon commencement of the event, the Cathiden was attacked by a Nightynight – a horselike creature with a size substantially bigger than a horse. Coincidentally, Meldorath planned his attack on the very day the Nightynights attacked the Cathidien and the entire city of Soulhire. On getting to Soulhire, Meldorath discovered that the king was already dead. He allied himself with a prominent member of Soulhire so that he would obtain the notes.
This fiction book has a mix of drama, action and magic realism. The book is straightforward and fast-paced, considering that most of the characters have been developed in the previous books. Though, the dynamic characters, like Lucius Nartik, were still developed into the story. The story is told from the third-person point of view, although there were a few instances of first-person narration from the point of view of Galen and Demetrius. Matthew Tysz was adept at using these two kinds of narration.
The scene I liked the most was when Lord Meldorath was showing off his magical prowess to Demetrius when they met in Soulhire. The author did a good feat of creating the character of Meldorath to be godlike. This made him appear unsurmountable by any other character in the series.
I presume the book was professionally edited because I encountered a few grammatical errors. The story was enthralling to read because it contained a lot of captivating scenes. I would suggest reading the first and second books of the series before reading this one – which is the third book of the series.
I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars. The author has a good writing style. For me, this particular book was the most interesting of the entire series. I would recommend the book to science fiction lovers. The book would also be an interesting read for people that crave magic realism books.
