[Following is a volunteer review of "The Excoms" by Brett Battles.]
The Excoms is a thriller novel by Brett Battles. The book revolves around a team of five urgently created by a committee to rescue high-value hostages. The team comprised mostly of misfits; Ananke is an assassin, Ricky is a human hunter, Rosario is an experienced thief, Dylan is an amazing driver and Liesel is a bodyguard to a member of the committee. Most of them were reached out to by the committee when they were in precarious situations, albeit, unknown to them at the time.
The team, under pressure from the council and having a limited time, have to put aside their indifferences and rescue the hostage before all hell breaks loose. Will they be able to succeed in this daring mission?
There was a lot to like about the book, one of which is the characters. The fearless and no-nonsense Ananke. The talkative Dylan. The funny and annoying Ricky, who is Ananke's ex-boyfriend. The computer geek Rosario and Shinji. The observant Liesel. These are not the only qualities they possessed, I merely noted a few things I observed from each of them. They were all experts and skillful in different areas and these skills were instrumental to the task they were given.
The beginning of the book was confusing yet engaging. I kept struggling to connect the dots but subsequently, it became clearer and more captivating and intriguing. The moment one of the characters, Ananke was unveiled, I began rooting for her. I doubt anyone who reads The Excoms will not adore her. Subsequently, I found myself rooting for and adoring all of them. But I think I still love Ananke more.
As should be expected in thrillers, the writer employed twists and suspense. The way the characters were introduced and connected in the story was out of this world, and that is what I loved most about this book. It was so Impressive and awe-inspiring. The humour employed could be regarded as a light one. There was absolutely nothing I disliked about The Excoms. Every chapter, every page, every word, and every sentence were worth the read.
The book was professionally edited as I discovered no form of error in it. I came across a few vulgar words in the book, and it had no erotic content whatsoever. I rate the book four out of four stars because it kept me hooked all the while I was reading it. This book will appeal to all lovers of thrillers, and I recommend it to them.
