Brian O’Hare’s The Inspector Sheehan Mysteries Book Four: The Dark Web Murders is a thrilling story based in Northern Ireland. A killer, with a mysterious motive, is on the loose leaving a trail of gruesome murders behind him. Chief Inspector Jim Sheehan and his gang must track down this highly intelligent killer. From secret clubs, to violent kidnappings, the detectives sure have their work cut out for them. This plot has your mind racing at all times. This book would intrigue any adult craving a highly in-depth mystery.

Personally, I am a sucker for a good mystery, but for some reason this book didn’t hit the spot. I am not sure if it was because I didn’t read the first three installments, or if I simply couldn’t connect to this story. I do not believe that you need to read the others, but it may help understand more of the character’s background. There were some aspects of this book that I really enjoyed along with areas that I strongly disliked.

O’Hare instantly peeked my interest by adding a glossary as well as a page for introductory information upon request from the readers of his past books. In times of confusion, I found it quite helpful to be able to look back on the glossary for terms that I was not familiar with, as well as the blurbs regarding each character that appears in the story. Anytime a new character appeared, there was a semi-detailed backstory. I found the overall plot to be intriguing. I also really enjoyed the main villain. The villain was intelligent, cunning and overall terrifying. This story really has the ability to get a person thinking.

However, I did find more negative things to say about this book than positive. To start, I was a bit frustrated seeing that there were no page numbers on the actual pages. This made it difficult to make notes and to navigate the book. This book is also not very easy to read. I found a majority of the book dry and lacking a bit of spark. This made the story seem boring. I have to admit that I had to keep myself from dozing off. I struggled to pick up the book and start reading it every day, despite having an interesting plot. This story also seemed a bit too detailed in some areas, especially when it came to characters. The author seemed to over explain certain aspects. There were multiple occasions where I considered skipping a few pages just to get through it. The complex vocabulary used did showcase the intelligence of the characters, but it made for a mentally draining read. Overall, this book just lacked spark.

Through the story, there were some highly gruesome parts. This book is not for the faint of heart. I believe that no person under the age of 18 should read this. There are some highly disturbing issues discussed and explained in this book making it purely an adult fiction novel. For people who crave an intense and strenuous read, I highly suggest this book. It you are someone who is interested in finding a lighthearted and easy story to follow, I suggest that you don’t read this book. Again, this story is not for the faint of heart. The topic of this book is heavy to say the least, with the occasional use of vulgar language. I rate this book a 2 out of 4. I believe that certain people will fall in love with this story, I am just not one of them. From what I could tell, the book seemed to be professionally edited and reviewed, but it still didn’t make up for overall boring feel.
