[Following is a volunteer review of "From Drift to SHIFT" by Jody B. Miller.]
Jody B. Miller succeeds again in motivating her readers in her book FROM DRIFT TO SHIFT. In this self-improvement book, one is exposed to a number of different individuals who have had to overcome challenges and sometimes even life threatening obstacles to progress in their lives.
The common thread that runs through all of their stories is the fact that they each had a strong support system and a burning desire to get ahead in life in spite of whatever disasters they encountered.
Miller highlights the point that no matter how bad a situation may appear, whether it be health-related, money-related or even relationship-related, one has the power to move away from it and do better and achieve more in life. Indeed, FROM DRIFT TO SHIFT is highly inspirational. On reading it, one will become anxious to make the necessary changes in one's life to be happy and succeed.
I will rate this book a three out of four stars due to the grammatical errors encountered. I also did not like the fact that it focused so heavily on the experiences of the persons interviewed. More of Miller's insight into the topic would have been appreciated.
On the contrary, very few books provide anything of value in their appendices. This however, is not the case with FROM DRIFT TO SHIFT. In its appendix, several links to additional books and other reading materials are provided which will benefit a reader who wishes to delve deeper into the realm of self-improvement. A lengthy discourse is also provided on deities and other religious elements for readers who may have an interest in this.
I believe that Miller's book is more suitable for persons aged 25 years and older as it focuses heavily on the Hows and Whys of making life changes. This recommended age group comprises persons to whom this topic will be of interest.
