[Following is a volunteer review of "Opaque" by Calix Leigh-Reign.]
Opaque, book one of Scion Saga, by Cālix Leigh-Reign, is a science fiction book based on the theme of genetic traits and biogenetic powers.
Adam, a 16-year-old teenager, lives with his parents and harbors obsessive love for his mother JoAnn, apart from their mother-son relation. He struggles every day and his sociopathic behavior usually troubles him a lot in his way of normal life. Then one day he sees her, staring back at him, his core erupts in a whole new different level of ecstasy. Carly, a new transfer student in Piure, is anything but normal. And when she meets Adam, she can neither hold back her secrets nor let him be far away from the truth. Adam’s life takes a massive turn when his parent's secret spills out and Carly is the one who has to watch out for him.
Through various differences and Adam’s confrontation with his darkness, they both still together, embark on a new journey to defeat the evil. Even if it means losing their loved ones, they will stand against the never-ending Iksha, who made their life a living hell just for greed and power. All the strength, power, and betrayals will lead them to what no one has the courage to do.
“Everything in your lives is based on one decision we made at some point. Whether that decision was to live or to hate, it all began with one decision, and one decision can change your entire life.” — Chapter 11: The Unveiling, Opaque by Cālix Leigh-Reign.
Cālix Leigh-Reign presented a marvelous and beautifully engaged phenomenon as a book. Adam, a teenage boy and somewhat sociopath, during earlier chapters was a negative character, who, as he said, is a monster for thinking in such a way about his mother. His hatred for stupid social relations was very evident. But later, when he finds reasons and answers to his existence, he became a positive character because he chose light to engulf him and not darkness. Whereas, Carly has to fight her own emotions to find the strength within herself. She along with Adam leads the proceedings throughout the book. She was confused in the beginning, but never lost hope for Adam.
The character of Adam and Carly, both are presented as a protagonist making their paths quite important. It will be exciting to see how Adam deals with his family’s mess.
This book contains no profane words. Erotic scenes are present in this book in a low manner. Explicit content is not in a negative sense apart from Adam’s earlier psychopathic behavior. The book is exceptionally well-edited. No grammatical mistakes or punctuation errors could be found.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. This book met with every expectation in the sense of a storyline, characters, author’s content, and adventure. This plot was also new, and the concept was based on rightful facts, presented in a very elucidative manner.
I would recommend this book to people who are interested in science fiction and also to those who like a romantic adventure. Teenagers as well as young people could add this book in their bucket list.
