While reading Burn Zones by Jorge P. Newbery, I was struck with a feeling of spirited encouragement. I can happily give this book a rating of 4 out of 4. I feel this book was very well written and I admire the strength shown by Mr.Newbery during his struggles. His perseverance in the face of adversity is a very admirable quality.

Starting from a young age Mr.Newbery recognized that to succeed a person must work hard. He began his first job at the age of seven, by the time he was eleven he had started his first business. This is a man who accomplished more in the first half of his life than many people can in multiple lifetimes. Having dropped out of high school at the age of sixteen he managed to start another successful business with little more than determination and the courage to face the unknown.

This is a man who has faced insurmountable odds and always stood tall in the face of diversity. As a biracial man who is half-Hispanic and half-White, he understood what it was like to be seen as an outsider. His struggles with being considered an outsider better equipped him to give people otherwise ignored and downtrodden the opportunity to prove their worth. To prove not only to themselves but to a society in which they were treated as castaways due to their skin tone.

When he was faced with financial ruin and slanderous accusations, he continued to face the world head-on. Instead of cowering and accepting defeat, he continued working hard. He got back up and brushed himself off. He took the lessons he had learned and used it to become a better businessman and entrepreneur. He found love in a long time friend. They stood by each other through hardship and success. Proving that some of the ties that bind us to another person can survive the sometimes harsh realities of life.

I loved the way his writing is done to affect the reader positively, You are not made to feel less than or not enough. You are given the events of an adventurous life written with humble sincerity. I believe this book would appeal to those of us who have been the underdog. The downtrodden in need of hope, encouragement and a nudge to keep going. Those of us with nothing left to lose and everything left to gain.
