Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hands is an inspiring autobiography written by Jorge P. Newbery. In it, he narrates about the high and low points in his life. He uses the term "burn zones" to represent the challenging experiences we think we can not withstand. He recounts every success and failures, and what helped him pull through at every turn.

Jorge's entrepreneurial mind starts at a very young age. At only seven years old he manages to get a newspaper delivery job. Later on, he uses his savings to start his first business of selling ice cream around the neighborhood. There on his business ventures become more and more ambitious as he grew older and more confident. He found pleasure in exploring new things, and after proving himself, he moved on to the next.

His urge for independence propelled him to start a recording company. He started interviewing music bands to learn from them. His mother would drive him to meet the bands as he wasn't old enough to drive. He decided to drop out of high school for him to concentrate on the business and was able to close his first deal. His parents were always very open and supportive of every decision he made. They were very accomodating of his punk friends, providing them with a place to spend the night as they were performing.

I liked the fact that Jorge added pictures to the book. It gave the story a more genuine and realistic feel. Seeing him in the different stages in his life with the people he describes in his story gives more truth to it. His growth from newspaper delivery boy to real estate mogul is impressive and how he deals with every "burn zone" he faces. His lifestyle remained the same throughout his life. He always led a simple life even though he had millions in the bank. He had a genuine desire to help people and not just to optimize his profit.

I give Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hands 4 out of 4 stars ratings. There was absolutely nothing I disliked about the book. The book was professionally edited. I did not spot any spelling or grammatical errors. I would recommend this book to anyone who's stuck in their burn zone and need encouragement to pull through. The story shows that it doesn't matter the challenge one can always make it to the other side.

Not everyone might understand what ”Burn Zones” signifies but I do. To be successful in any career, one needs to persevere. Success is expensive. Nice work.
