[Following is a volunteer review of "Man Mission" by Eytan Uliel.]
Man Mission by Eytan Uliel is a story of four young men who grow up, go to school, get a job, get married, and raise a family. All the things that a "normal man" is born to do. By all appearances they lead successful lives, and life is wonderful, but life is not fulfilling.
While in school, Eytan shares his dream with Sam to travel the world and eat the exotic foods of that country. The dream is forgotten for several years, but one day Sam calls to say "Let's go". That is the day man mission is born. The men embark on a journey to live life like a "real man". One week out of every year for the next fifteen years, they travel to distant places. There they hike, kayak, ride bicycles, and ice climb.
During their travels, the men form a strong bond of friendship. They learn valuable lessons from life and how to help one another through the hardships and struggles. They see that life is not always easy or fair. Sometimes life knocks you down, but you have to get back up, dust yourself off, and keep going. In the end, it is about finding the "real you" inside the man.
I really enjoyed the book. I felt it told the true tale of someone's inner struggle to be everything that a person should be and yet hold on to a part that you wanted to be.
The part that I liked the least about the book is the profanity. I felt like it was a little extreme and could have been toned down some. For that reason this book would not be a good book for children or teenagers.
I felt like it was well written. I think it was professionally edited. I would rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.
