[Following is a volunteer review of "E-M-P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer.]

Kelly and Tom have gone on a honeymoon in Honduras. Little do they know that their honeymoon is about to be ruined. On a trip into town, Kelly uncovers a secret that foreign agents will do anything to keep hidden. After narrowly escaping from their clutches, Kelly is determined to find out what they are up to. The newlyweds team up with a wide cast of operatives they meet in Honduras. Can they help the CIA stop a terrorist attack against the United States? Together, the team will have to sneak their way past highly trained terrorists and risk everything to save the United States.

E-M-P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom is a light and fun read. It carries an air of mystery as the characters try to unravel the terrorists’ plan. The plot was straight forward and didn’t contain unpredictable twists and turns. This did not take away from the overall experience. The cast of characters makes up for the lack of surprise. They provide many humorous moments with their antics.

While the reader sees plenty of interaction between the characters, I would have liked to see more relationship development. It was clear Tom and Kelly had a relationship, but the side characters never had a chance to shine. For example, Steve and Sharon had an instant attraction. They shared flirtatious lines and suggestive themes. But, aside from this the reader never sees their relationship develop.

Dorothy May Mercer excelled at explaining the technology in this novel. Everything was broken down into easy to understand sections for the reader. I was able to follow along as the antagonists explained computer codes and launch keys. At times it did grow a little tedious as things were explained in detail. The information helped develop the overall idea of what was happening, but it could have been cut down.

One section, in particular, gave too much information. One of the characters explained solar flares. Both a picture and a source link were provided. This was unnecessary. It pulled me out of the narrative. Academic writing requires sources. Fiction does not. The writing should be enough to form an understanding for the reader. If adding pictures and sources had been a consistent element in the writing style, I would have accepted it. I still would think it was unnecessary, but it would seem less random.

Overall, I would rate E-M-P Honeymoon: Kelly & Tom, 3 out of 4 stars. This novel was a quick and entertaining read. The characters provided a humorous and engaging story for readers to enjoy. I would have appreciated less detail of the technology and more detail on the character relationships. I did not find a lot of errors as I read.

There were no adult scenes, but there were areas with suggestive language. There were also a few instances of profanity in the novel. I recommend this to readers who enjoy romance and feel-good novels. I would not recommend this to readers who prefer complex plots.

That interview with the expert about solar flares kind of came out of left field and never really amounted to anything, so indeed, it makes sense to question its necessity. I wasn't all that fond of the novel myself, but I can see why people might enjoy it since it's a light, fast-paced read. Thanks for the review!

I honestly was surprised that more people didn’t know what door flares were (I guess I read/watch too much sci-fi) so the detailed explanation was a bit much for me too. Still, the book was an enjoyable read and I like this one a lot more than Cyber War. Great review!

Thank you for stopping by to read my review! It really was a fun book aside from the bit that jarred me in the beginning.

I read this one as well. I thought it was a good light-hearted, action book. It has a wide appeal since it's mostly clean. I enjoyed reading your thoughts as well. Thanks.

Mercer seems to specialize in romance/technothriller tales. I would be glad to sample her work; this seems like a good place to start.

I didn't feel like the solar flares even played a part in the book. I'm wondering if they were supposed to originally, but the story took another turn. Thanks for stopping by!

I really agree with all of this. I really liked the characters, but wished for more development. I thought some of the bad guys were well written though. My favorite was the bathing suit explanation

I agree with you, the solar flare citation would also throw me off. It may have been better placed in an appendix or something. Thanks for the insightful review!
