[Following is a volunteer review of "E-M-P Honeymoon" by Dorothy May Mercer.]
Officer Tom Turbulo and his wife Kelly are honeymooning in Honduras when Kelly sticks her nose where it doesn’t belong, and stumbles into what appears to be a terrorist plot against North America. While snooping around she draws the attention of a guard who tries to capture her, followed by about six others. Frantically, she escapes and hides until the coast is clear, then jumps into a taxi to return to the resort where she and Tom are staying.
While she is hiding, she calls her brother, Senator Mike McBride, sounding out of breath and very frightened. Concerned, Mike begins asking around, trying to determine if the U.S. has heard of any ops or chatter taking place in Honduras, only to be stonewalled by the agencies.
Sensing the danger his sister is in, he sends backup to investigate the lab she discovered, protect Kelly and Tom, as well as to thwart any planned attacks.
Meanwhile, Professor Dr. Peter McKinney is sharing his concerns regarding the danger of having power outages and how the loss of computer access would affect the world, as virtually everything depends on them. This is only the beginning of EMP Honeymoon by Dorothy May Mercer.
This story, while it is supposed to be fiction, describes catastrophic events that could take place, caused by either Mother Nature or by terrorists. In my opinion, the possibility that a nationwide power outage is real and would have a devastating effect on life as we know it. Dorothy May Mercer obviously did a great deal of research to write this book. Solar flares? Never heard of them! The possible repercussions due to a major power outage are many. The thought alone is disturbing, and living in the times we do, gives the reader something to think about. Have we weaponized space? Are there other countries that have done the same?
This book is a quick and easy read. There is intrigue, suspense, and a little bit of romance. Romance lovers probably wouldn’t particularly care for this book. However, those interested in space or warfare, even Sci-Fi probably would.
I would have loved to give this book a 4- star review, but there are just a few typos and grammar errors.
I really did not have a favorite or least favorite part, but I did enjoy reading Dr. Kinney’s description of a world without computers. While a good read, it hits a little close to home.
Due to just a handful of errors, I rate this book a 3 out of 4.
