Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat by R.F. Kristi is the seventh book in The Inca Book Series and continues the crime-solving adventures of a spunky Siberian kitty named Inca. This time, Inca is vacationing with her “mom” and fellow kitties on the idyllic island of Sri Lanka when a cryptic headline in the local paper catches her eye: An old antique sword has been stolen from a museum in Colombo. Unable to let a mystery go unsolved, Inca and the other furry members of her detective agency, Inca & Company—her fellow kitties—slap on their sleuthing hats and take on the case.

This is a really sweet children’s story, with a spunky, personality-filled heroine—a self-proclaimed, “super-duper cat detective”—and lots of charming side characters. The illustrations are adorable. The writing is clear and has an enchanting, simple rhythm.

The book first starts off with Inca’s “family tree” (introducing her owner, who she calls “Mom,” and Mom’s other cats) and then gives some quick background on her personal detective agency, a motley and colorful crew which consists of Mom’s three other kitties, a hamster, and two dogs. The chapters of the book are titled by the date of the month in which the events occur in the story.

The editing in this book is excellent (I found just two misspellings and only a few minor grammar errors). The formatting is great, as well, except for one chapter heading that was in regular print instead of in the larger print that all of the other chapter headings were in. However, these errors are not overly distracting.

Overall, I rate Serendipity Mystery: Diary of a Snoopy Cat a well-deserved 4 out of 4 stars for the quality of the writing and the editing—and for the cuteness and appeal of the characters and the story. There are several words used throughout that might be difficult for younger children to read, so I would recommend this book to parents with kids between the ages of seven and ten.

Children's books are great because they always contain life lessons and values for children. I also hope that children are able to comprehend this book irrespective of the difficulty in the words you talked about in your review. Thanks!

I've read a few good reviews of this children's book! Glad to hear that it was enjoyable to read. Maybe the difficult terms in the book can be a chance for the little ones to expand their vocabulary and learn new things. Thanks for your lovely review!
