KILLING ABEL by MICHAEL TIEMAN

Michael Tieman's Killing Abel engages us for 370 mostly enthralling pages and I award him 3 out of 4 stars. I withheld a star because I only found the story captivating after Adam and Eve's expulsion from the Garden and not before.

Starting off with a tale most readers would be familiar with, M. Tieman catches us up in an engaging story which branches out into new and clever directions that come alive in a different way from what one is accustomed to in the Bible and other Scriptures. He imbues his characters with a contemporary perspective and in viewing their angst and struggles, we find them far easier to relate to, than we might have imagined.

We are swept along as these pioneers in a brand-new world, find their way to create a relationship with their Creator and embark upon the very first experience of every imaginable activity and emotion. The story grows on and addicts you, as it delves into what happens next after the first couple starts on their relationship and life together. Equal parts reality show and Oprah style therapy, the entertainment stays relevant all through.

In this retelling of the biblical story of Creation and of Man’s fall from Grace and the events that follow, God provides Adam and his lineage with the skills to paint on an earthly canvas, and the resulting real-life pictures which flow forth from Man’s imagination and free will, has us avidly turning pages as the action plays out. From Relationship and Newly-weds’ drama, Incestuous relationships (which we all evidently descended from), Murder and Fratricide, Exile, Governments and Power struggles, Creation of enhanced super beings and in the end family struggles worthy of an Emmy Award winning soap opera!

Killing Abel brings us one man’s imagining of how it could have happened. In revisiting Man’s expulsion from the Garden of Eden, we each can each ponder on the probable course of events and eventual outcome if we had been in position as one of the first two humans placed on this earth.

The following observations should help the Editorial team:
1. Page 27, 1st paragraph, The word ‘’neither’’ was omitted in the last sentence.
2. Page 45, 3rd sentence, 4th paragraph. Same omission of use of the word ''neither''.
3. Page 47, Last paragraph, ‘’much more sure’’ is grammatically incorrect.
4. Page 126, 1st paragraph, The word ‘’not’’ was omitted from the last sentence
5. Page 128, 1st sentence in 2nd paragraph is disjointed and needs rewording.
6. Page 192, 2nd paragraph - The word should read as ''father’s'' not ''father''.
7. Page 192 4th paragraph, the sentence should read ''a misguided...’’ not ''misguided...''.
8. Page 201, 4th line, 4th paragraph – basis is misspelt as bases
9. Page 207, typesetting, 5th line in 4th paragraph, the word ‘’for’’
