Naoko Kitamura is the only female child out of four children, born to the family of Kumiko and Sato Kitamura in Osaka, Japan in 1981. She is a demon-hybrid just like her mother and all other females in her bloodline before her. When she was ten years old, she had her first true experience with evil through her mother's eyes, but it was just the beginning. She grew up to become a cop, a karate black belt, fighting the evil that threatens to destroy the people of Japan. She wanted to serve her country just like her mother before the incident that claimed her life. The question is, would she end up like her mother? Or would she choose her path? Keeping the secret to herself, she manages to emerge victorious against all odds but at what price?

Demon Heart written by David Crane is a Sci-fi/Fantasy novel that is 295 pages long. The narrative was told from the perspective of the protagonist, Naoko Kitamura. The author was able to keep me engaged from beginning to end. It is an intriguing and suspenseful novel, set in modern-day Japan. The character development was very solid. The author's description was poetic at times, and a bit graphic in the sense that the actions and characters were so vividly described.

Naoko Kitamura is a very likable character. She is strong, brave, courageous, ferocious, and fearless in the face of challenges, with a great love for humanity. When she and her demon charge into a fight, there's almost nothing that can stand in their way. She is a creature of terror to her enemies and salvation to her friends, ready to protect and avenge. I was impressed with the author's knowledge of karate and Japanese hand-to-hand combat fighting techniques.

David Crane gave some insight into the Japanese culture, from their delicious cuisines to their values, and principles. I enjoyed reading Demon Heart. It was interesting, educating, entertaining and contains a load of fantasy adventures. David explored themes like vengeance, love, power and corruption, and death.

I detected a few errors and too many profane words in this book, human violation, brutality, sexual assaults, and nudity. Therefore, I would recommend this book to adult readers, lovers of action and fantasy adventure. If you are sensitive to brutality and gory details then this book is not for you. If you are fascinated with Japanese mythology and interested in Japanese culture then you can get a copy and read. I have no qualms whatsoever with this book, and the punctuation errors did not affect the flow of the narrative. For this reason, I rate Demon Heart 4 out of 4 stars.

I'm very intrigued by books on paranormal or shifter themes; this sounds like a good example of those. I enjoyed your articulate and informative review.

Quite a strong character portrayal of Naoko as she fights off evil. Looks like a compelling book but the profanity will keep me off. Thanks for the wonderful review.

Naoko has a strong motivation with her mother's death constantly on her mind. I really enjoyed your description of her character. The Japanese mythology also interests me. Thanks for the great review!

Wow! sounds like quite the book. Thank you for the time you placed into the reveiw. I won't be looking into this one to graphic and profane for my mind. Though it sounds like those who enjoy this type of writing will have some quality entertainment.

A half-demon hybrid that ends up fighting evil (a strong female character) sounds very interesting. I enjoyed reading your entertaining and well-written review.
