Followed my Star by R.Annahita, 1st volume is a toe-curling romantic novel that revolves around a female protagonist who falls in love with an American soldier in Germany. The story traces the insecurities and tempestuous emotions of a girl who has not been loved so passionately by a man before. Her love for him propels her actions during the course of the story. She is absolutely devoted to him and vice versa. Society and her deep-seated insecurities emerging from a broken family fail to discourage her from following the love of her life.

The author has done a poor work in terms of character building, shedding very little light on the male counterpart when it is about her journey with him. The story does not seem to progress in meaning, with extremely verbose and repetitive descriptions of their love for each other, it tires out the reader. It had the potential to be a mawkish romance novel but the writer has overdone it to be unpalatable. It was not entertaining and it also did not keep the reader wanting more despite its overly sensual elements.

I'd say it is an amateur work and it fairly well edited. The only element that I liked was the fairly accurate presentation of the dilemma faced by a soldier. A good-hearted man in the force, armed with weapons intended to take life. A man entering the force is not motivated by his patriotic sentiments alone, it is the promise of a better, more comfortable life after the service. What I disliked the most about the book is that the story lagged very much and the lack of development in the plot.

I would give a rating of 1 out of 4 stars because the author needs to work on storyline, character formation and bring meaning into the story rather than dwelling on cliche themes. The book fails to keep the reader interested and therefore I can only bring myself to give a poor rating.

The book, as I've mentioned already is deficient in quality content and hence, I will not suggest it to any particular type of audience although if you're simply looking to kill time with an overly sentimental read, this will serve you fine.
