Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hands is a non-fiction book written by Jorge P. Newbery, a successful entrepreneur, distressed debt and real estate investor, and an endurance athlete. It is divided into ten chapters. The book is the author's memoir of his life and businesses since he was a child to adulthood. At the age of seven, the author started delivering the Herald. He delivered the papers every afternoon after school during the week and mornings on the weekdays.
At the age of sixteen, the author dropped out of high school to concentrate on business. The book takes us through the author's different burn zones, from being a paperboy all through to being a Real Estate Mogul and later an American Homeowner Preservation. Despite the many challenges he went through, the author kept on moving from one burn zone to the next without giving up. The author also introduces us to his love life and family. His lawfully wedded wife, Verria, his siblings; Charlene, Anne, Alastair and Charles, and his parents.
The cover and the title of the book intrigued me to read the book. With as much as I don't fancy reading memoirs, I still enjoyed the book. I was inspired by the author's journey of life. Just like the author, I was inspired by the wise words; the greatest glory in living lies not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail.
I liked Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hands by Jorge P. Newbery because it was engaging. At no point did I get bored reading it because it's the best memoir that I have read so far. Second, I liked the author's writing style because the conversation kept flowing flawlessly. Third, the author's use of pictures which emphasized everything he was talking about. Fourth, the book has great life lessons to offer. From it, we learn that success comes with challenges and that nothing comes easy. Also, we learn that entrepreneurs must be set to take risks in their businesses and be ready for the outcomes because success only comes to those who take action and believe. However, I did not find anything that I disliked about the book because it was all amazing and inspiring.
Overall, I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars because it was well-written and it kept me wanting to read on and on without putting it down. Second, the book was professionally edited because I did not notice any single mistake while reading it. However, I did not give it 3 out of 4 stars because the book had great themes which include family ties and racism. This book is suitable for readers who love inspirational and motivational books and also for entrepreneurs.
