“Others around you are hurting just as much as you. Focus on enduring the pain until the pace slows. The effort will get easier soon.” says Jorge P. Newbery.
Burn zones: Playing life's bad hands is an autobiography written by Jorge P. Newbery. Jorges' father is Hispanic, and his mother is white. His family lives in Los Angeles. He starts his memoir at the age of seven where he asks the district manager of a newspaper brand if he can work for him in delivering newspapers. The manager gives him the job in doubt but Jorge actually works with determination. He leaves school at the age of sixteen and pursues his dreams, where he becomes a records boy. After his first work he becomes someone who is business oriented, and nothing stops him from achieving his dreams and goals.
I find the author to be someone who is self-driven and is not afraid to lose or face challenges, which is actually encouraging. He takes actions and doesn't think of the impacts his decisions would cause him.
At one point, the author buys a huge piece of property: Woodland Meadows which costs him a lot. Everything works out until an ice storm disaster strikes Columbus, destroying most parts of the property. During this point, he borrows immensely from his other properties to try and rebuild woodland meadows. Unfortunately, this is when he moves from hero to zero.
Despite all the challenges that Jorge faces, he still doesn't give up easily. At one point, he is accused by the Columbus government of being a schemer, slumlord and a public enemy and his name is tarnished all over the newspaper. However, he stays strong in his hardest moments. Even after losing all, he still picked himself up and rebuilt all from the beginning.
Burn zones has been an inspirational book. From where the author starts till the end, he doesn't give in. Despite all the burn zones; the betrayals from the state government, sacrifices that he has done for his nation and millions of losses to be precise $26 million in debt. He held his head high and kept on struggling.
What I liked about the book is that the author uses pictures to show us how his life was from being an ice cream seller (which was one of his businesses) to being a big business person. In addition, at the beginning of the book the author writes his flaws and strengths. The author also talks about the injustices which happened to African American people. He says how some were being killed without any cause. He condemns this behavior.
I rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. Burn zones did not contain any errors, and it had a good grammatical flow. I recommend it to anyone since it has a lot to be learned from and it did not contain any profane words.
