[Following is a volunteer review of "Burn Zones" by Jorge P. Newbery.]

Burn Zones by Jorge Newbery is an autobiographical sketch of life and perseverance. Born into a half-white, half-Hispanic, and loving home, Jorge had various opportunities to grow and shine in his life. His parents were typically more than willing to support his dreams in any way they could. He started off his professional life at the ripe age of seven delivering newspapers. Soon his entrepreneurial spirit grew, and he started selling ice cream throughout his neighborhood. Jorge did not believe in slowing down, and at the age of 16, dropped out of school, with the support of his parents, to pursue his dreams of owning a record label. He continued to pursue dream after dream until he found himself at the top of his field investing in homes and apartment buildings. Unfortunately, there is not much one can prepare for when Mother Nature decides to strike. Burn Zones is an ultimate comeback story of how being down doesn’t indicate being out of the game just yet.

With 4 out of 4 stars , this is the perfect book to pick up if you are feeling beaten down and worn out. If you are requiring motivation to push through the murky waters of defeat, Jorge Newbery is your man. He eloquently illustrates the numerous trials of life and how he has never known the word defeat. However, he also admits that there is not a silver-lining to every cloud; the important piece to remember is to always jump back up.

This book was uniquely written and edited exceptionally well with only a few minor errors. Newbery speaks in a modified stream of consciousness that feels as though you are patiently asking for advice from your favorite uncle. He weaves beautiful metaphors and imagery rather than bluntly laying out what he has learned.

I must state, however, that I nearly did not give this book a full 4 stars. I hesitated slightly due to the message and the theme of this book occasionally becoming lost and marred by the political views that seem to find their way in and out of each topic. These views, at times, gave the book a choppy feel, and made it problematic to push through certain sections. Even though Newbery made excellent points with his political views, it felt like going on a road trip and taking short detours that still put you back on the same path you from which you originated.

To summarize, I deeply enjoyed this autobiography and the life lessons it imparted. I enjoy learning from the wise and from the experience of others. This novel is the perfect pickup if one feels downtrodden. It will soon be recognized that the only obstacle in the way of your dreams is you.
