Timewise by Robert Leet is the story of a boy that finds he is entangled with another human being in a quantum sense. The story is interesting and keeps the reader engaged. The characters are people the reader can relate to and draw the reader into a world where they feel they know someone similar to those depicted. However, the interactions that the main character has with each of the characters is fleeting and hardly goes past the superficial. The reader may have a hard time forming meaningful connections with any of the characters presented. The reader may also find it hard to believe that the main character continually runs into and becomes involved with beautiful women by accident.
The plot is secondary to the unique scientific perspective presented in the book. The science takes center stage and some readers may find that to be overwhelming. The good news is that the science portions of the book are not essential to the overarching story. They only seek to solidify the bond between the two main characters. Those that do not have a passing fascination with quantum physics and the theories that it involves may find these portions of the book tedious and unnecessary, while those that appreciate the implications of quantum physics may find these portions enthralling.
There doesn't appear to be a rising action or even climax to the book. In reality the story seems more like a memoir than anything else. That isn't to say that the story isn't interesting it's just to say that the story does not propagate in the same manner as similar stories do. That may actually be to the benefit of the author though as this book centralizes on a unique perspective of the universe at large. When a unique theory is proposed it makes sense that the story that surrounds it should have a unique flow.
I had a hard time putting this book down. However, it wasn't necessarily for the plot. In reality, I had a hard time putting it down due to the unique science perspective that the author lays out. The ideas put forth are intriguing and allow a different perspective on the universe and its creation. The theories and ideas cover everything from the big bang to dark energy to dark matter to quantum physics and entanglement. The ideas run the gamete of current physics and take those ideas to a new level as they bend and skew what has been researched and discovered.
Overall, I would give this book a 3 out of 4. The only reason it was not awarded the full four is that the character development left something to be desired. Further, the unique flow of the story or lack of tension may dissuade some readers from completing the story. The unique science put forth in terms of the development of the universe and the flow of time may also leave some readers out in the cold. If they can persevere though they will find a story that is engaging and intellectually stimulating.
