We are Voulhire: A New Arrival under Great Skies is the first novel of the series “We are Voulhire” authored by Matthew Tysz. A fiction is beautifully written and carries a charm that would make the readers fixated to the story.

The story started with the journey of a young man named Galen Bray, who tried to escape from his hometown, the Land of Princes to a new town, Magnum Caelum. In the kingdom of Voulhire, the king was disturbed with the citizens’ impressions towards him. Several characters were introduced in this book, including the ones that were granted powers such as Lord Eldus Alderman and Captain Barcaedi, who were responsible for guarding the city of Hillport and its coast. The rumors about the evil Lord Meldorath and Lord Olinn as the monsters who practiced magic and instilled fear in the mind of the civilians. The incidents that happened in Voulhire were portrayed into this heart-gripping story, as the events were piled across the country, affecting the residents.

There were many themes mentioned including courageousness, religion, and love. Galen and Lord Eldus showed the courage against their enemies and unfortunate incidents, despite having to ease themselves in new the environments in Magnum Caelum and Hillport. Conflicts of events happening all around the kingdom were shown as sequential effects from the wrath of their predecessors. Two universes, the Cosmos of humankind and the magic Caromentis realm were linked and the residents with powers can travel between these worlds. The adventures and opportunities of the characters encountered were felt and depicted beautifully for each character. For instance, Galen Bray fled from his country of the Land of Princes to Magnum Caelum, with hopes for a brighter future. There, he found his caregiver, Rowan with whom he went to make their ways for Galen’s inheritance.

The choice of words used in the story was appropriate for the situations in Voulhire. The author had done a good job of using new vocabulary related to the times in his writing. It is interesting to learn about each character and their wisdom as well as their point of view on the certain situations they faced. For example, how Lord Eldus as a new chief tried to learn about the mysterious legends that captivated the inhabitants’ minds for so long despite their social status. Besides, the introduction to two different universes was captivating and carried many connections to the characters and events happening in Voulhire.

The narrations were portrayed from the points of view of Galen Bray, King Wilhelm, Knight Midius and Lord Meldorath. Each character was clever and had their own perceptions of the incidents which were revolving around them. There is a map given at the beginning which gave the readers insight about the geographical illustration of the kingdom. It helped us on the storyline and the places mentioned since the beginning of the story.

In overall, I rate this novel with 4 out of 4 stars. The storyline is fascinating and had me fixated to the story until the end. I don’t encounter any grammatical or typing errors throughout the book, I think it has been properly edited and well-written. It is suitable for those who like to read about fantasies and adventure series. The author’s style of writing is exceptional. The fantasy between the perceptions of the creatures of the two universes got me really hooked. Honestly, I couldn’t pick my favorite character from the story. Each had the strength and ability in his own ways to navigate through the problems they faced in the story. I am looking forward to reading the next chapter.
