Who Told You That You Were Naked? by William E. Combs is a faith-based story discussion about the origin of the creation of the universe. He focused on the history of Adam and Eve and connected it to the present occurrences of the world.
A human being has been God’s masterpiece. As a creator of life and giver of love, he gave Adam his paradise. In his realm, Adam was free to do anything. The Lord authorized him to name all living creatures and befriend them. Adam’s life was almost perfect until he realized that something is lacking. Despite all the wonderful things in his paradise, deep inside Adam felt incomplete, so, God gave him his other half. He made a beautiful woman as a gift. She became his wife and together they are granted a paradise.
Adam and Eve were both intelligent, however, they were naive about what is good and what is evil. The book mainly focused on their first commitment of sin. When they disobeyed the rule of the Lord, they had developed shame and fear because they had discovered the truth of their nakedness. Because of it, they were given a consequence. A woman shall abide under the authorization of his partner while a man shall seek salvation from starvation through his sweat.
Combs intellectually discussed the true meaning of nakedness, the commitment of first sin, the power of faith, the glory of freedom, the salvation of light, and the comfort of God’s grace.
From reading the book, I have learned five essential life lessons. First, nakedness is more than the absence of clothes, rather it is our awareness of the things revolving around us, our knowledge about good and evil. Second, we are all slaves of sin. Third, real faith can’t be moved nor taken away because it is the most powerful thing a man could have. Fourth, we should eliminate anxiety, frustration, and worry because it blinds us from seeing God’s solution. Fifth, we are never alone for God is with us all the time, and we can reach him through prayers.
I could safely say that the author is knowledgeable enough because the book was well-polished and arranged accordingly. The book was clearly edited well because I found no grammatical errors or typos. Over all, there are ten chapters, each contained a specific topic. I liked that the author added real testimonies and personal insights at the end of every chapter. It helped me understand the content more deeply as well as broaden my knowledge on the matter. Honestly, I am not the religious type, I know so little about The Bible, and I am thankful to have read this book for it gave me an opportunity to have an in-depth understanding on religion. Because of it, I award the book 4 out of 4 stars.
Since the book focused on Christianity, I recommend it to everyone who believe in God. The material is completely violence-free, so, it is applicable to any age.
