Adrift is written by Charlie Sheldon. The story is centred on a cargo ship called the Seattle Express and its crew members. A disaster occurs on the ship which forces the captain to make a crucial decision. This has far-reaching consequences that affect the lives of many people. The story follows the experiences of the crew members after the captain's decision, as well as the fate of the ship. The crew members are challenged and tested by the power of nature. They also have to wage their own inner battles to withstand the precarious situations they now find themselves thrown into. The lives of the workers of a company owned by a married couple Larry and Louise are also deeply affected by what happened on the ship. It can mean success or disaster for them.

The dramatic beginning got my attention from the moment I started reading. The setting of the story was well described. From the dangerous, whirling ocean to the rugged landscapes, it was easy to clearly picture the ship and the events that followed. The level of detail and vividness of the descriptions were impressive. The storyline was amazing. Even when there was an actual lull in the action, the momentum of the novel carried through. The tension interwoven into the storyline was consistent throughout the book.

There was not one central character but several. I also enjoyed reading the first person perspectives of the different personalities. I liked the characters in the story. They were mentally tough and resilient, people like; Steve, William, Anne, Larry and Louise and a few of the other main characters. I wondered if this was the author’s way of showing a parallel between the strength of the characters’ wills compared to the forces of nature.

I enjoyed the blend of the ancient mysticism throughout the story, such as the events in the sweat lodge. It was related in such an authentic way and added a touch of mystery to the plot. The author’s rich experience, research, and knowledge were evident throughout the book.

I did not find anything that diminished the quality of the book. I found very few grammar mistakes. As a result, the book seemed professionally edited. It was also well written and enjoyable to read. I gave the book a rating of 4 out of 4 stars. I would recommend this for all readers who enjoy action-packed, adventure stories. This is not for people who are interested in a light, relaxing story.

Ooh yeah, as I read through the book, I tried to figure out who the protagonist is but I realised the story was narrated from different points of view. I liked the tension because it stirred me to keep turning the page. I truly enjoyed reading the book. I appreciate your well-drafted sentiments.
