I would suggest Lost Souls by Poppy Z. Brite. It's not too long, but it's wonderfully written.

I recommend Randy Love... at your service. It's is a very light novel without very intense subject matter.

I just read Raven's Peak by Lincoln Cole. It wasn't amazing, but it fits the horror bill.
