She also has other YA series such as "The Lying Game" and "The Perfectionists" that you could check out too!

Aside from that, Maria V. Snyder's Poison Study series has got to be another of my favourites. I started the first book thinking I wouldn't like enjoy it much, though I soon got into the story and before long it became one of my favourites.

Mystery:
Agatha Christie (classic)
Rhys Bowen (historical, romantic)
Brandi Lynn Ryder (suspense)
Robert Gilbraith (this is JK Rowling's mystery author penname.)
Fantasy:
Jennifer Fallon (adult, sort of political)
George R. R. Martin (adult, sort of political)
Marion Zimmer Bradley (adult, an extended universe based on Arthurian myths)
Robin McKinley (YA, lots of fairy-tale- and legend-based books)
Patricia Wrede (YA, fun sword-and-sorcery sort of things)
David and Leigh Eddings (old-school pre-YA/adult separation, but every series they wrote I found appealing in a different way)
Diana Wynne Jones (children's, fun and creative and full of parallel universes that use magic!)
Nahoko Uehashi (children's-ish with a middle-aged main character...historical Japan-based fantasy)
Mystery and Fantasy combined:
Miyuki Miyabe
JK Rowling

Also some good fantasy authors worth taking a look at:
Trudi Canavan
George R.R. Martin
Leigh Bardugo (Six of Crows is one of my all time favorites)
Diana Gabaldon
Hope these helped:)

Patrick Rothfuss - check him out. He has series of fantasy books and is sometimes mentioned in the same breath as Tolkien.
