Alternate History Book

Post by pastorlarry »

Greetings All!

I am looking to increase the amount of alternate history type reads (think Harry Turtledove) on my Kindle. Does anyone have a favorite book or author to recommend?

Thanks!

You might like to try Fatherland by Robert Harris which is set in a world where the Germans won WW2. Alternatively, there's Making History by Stephen Fry, which is about people trying to use a time machine to change the course of history.

If you want to keep with alternate American history, there is For Want of a Nail: If Burgoyne Had Won at Saratoga by Robert Sobel, about the American Revolutionary War.

Check out Stephen Baxter too if you can! He is mostly a hard sci-fi author, but has also written a bunch of alternate history novels with focus on research into history as well as characters.

I absolutely love "Scattered Leaves: The Legend of Ghostkiller (The Ghostkiller Trilogy Book 1)" by Lynny Prince.

Kyle Ghostkiller inherits a medicine bundle that will allow him to travel back in time. Where he has the opportunity to change the history for all Native American people.

The added twist to this story is that it is based on true events.

The Man in the High Tower by Phillip K. Dick is an interesting take on alternate history. It's also a great series on Amazon. But, read the book first.

Dominion by CJ Sansom is a good read. It's an alternate history set in the UK imaging how events might have turned out had Churchill not become Prime Minister....

I have not read and reviewed any book that deals with history of a particular group, so I would be silent about the author to recommend.
