The Invisible Library Series by Genevieve Cogman is a brilliant start to get back into reading. Relatively short books, 200-350 pages each, its a fantasy but there's a lot of investigative work and mystery to it as well!

You should try books written by Brandon Sanderson. He mainly writes epic fantasy but occasionally dabbles in Sci-fi and some weird mix of horror, mystery, Sci-fi and fantasy.
