Good day everyone, I am J P from Cape Town, South Africa.
I am compiling a reading list for African parents.
A list of books that will empower the reader and give value such that reading becomes a regular behaviour.
To this end I have made a spreadsheet of recommended books, divided by age and gender, ie
boys 5 to 7 girls 5 to 7
boys 7 to 9 girls 7 to 9
boys 9 to 12 girls 9 to 12
boys 12 to 14 girls 12 to 14
boys 14 to 16 girls 14 to 16
boys 16 to 18 girls 16 to 18
boys 18 to 21 women 18 and up
men 21 and up
biographies and autobiographies

I am asking the users of this forum for help with book and author recommendations.

This is tough.

For kids:
any of Roald Dahl's books like Matilda, The Witches, or Charlie's Chocolate Factory
Neil Gaiman's Coraline

For adolescents:
coming of age stories like The Giver and Perks of Being a Wallflower
