Historical Fiction Recommendations

Post by maiamalanee »

Hello.
I'm currently on the hunt for some really good historical fiction. Right now, I'm really interested in the nineteenth and twentieth century. I'm not really looking for anything related to European royalty, but I'm happy to consider it. As an example, I really enjoy reading books such as Little Women and anything by F. Scott Fitzgerald and Ernest Hemingway.
Thanks in advanced!

Have you read Gone with the Wind? It's one of my favorites. I also enjoyed Water for Elephants, if you haven't read that one! I think those are my two favorites from those eras that you haven't already mentioned.

I've seen Gone with the Wind and Water for Elephants, but I've never read them. I'll have to add them to the list! I really enjoy the movie for Gone with the Wind, so I'm sure I will like the book as well.

I haven't seen Water for Elephants yet, but I really want to! The Gone with the Wind movie is really good about staying true to the book. So if you enjoyed that, I'm sure you'll like it! I also read The Woman in White recently. It's a really slow-moving mystery novel, but the characters were great.

The Woman In White sounds interesting. I'll have to check that novel out as well.

I highly recommend The Book Thief! It's a WWII story, but takes a really creative approach and gets inside a (few) different perspective(s). Well-written, too. It's not a love story, but it felt romantic to me. If you enjoy literature, I think it'd be worth your while to check it out!
