Inspiring biographies or autobiographies?

Post by Ria »

I really enjoy reading about good people. They inspire me to be better. Recently I've read Gifted Hands: a Ben Carson Story and Mother Teresa. I also like stories of miraculous survival as in Left to Tell which is the story of a survivor of the Rwandan genocide. I'd really like to read more but find the shelves of biographies daunting to sift through. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

First, a question: are you open to memoirs?

Second, I suggest Mao's Last Dancer by Li Cunxin. I am still in awe of this book.

What is grief, if not love persevering?

Grief is just love with no place to go.

I'm a big memoir/autobiography reader, though my tastes run in odd directions. Medical/neurological disorders mostly, but anything that catches my interest.

I'm really looking forward to reading A Long Way Home by Saroo Brierley.

A beautiful mind by Sylvia Nasar is an interesting look into the life and the illness of Dr John Nash, the genius behind the famous Nash equilibrium and many more abstract mathematical concepts, and his descend and subtle recovery from schizophrenia.

Jennifer Weiner's "Adventures in Life, Love, and Writing" is good.
