The most recent fairytale retelling I've read is Hunted by Meagan Spooner. I didn't really finish it because I have one big problem about it. I loved it because beauty is portrayed as wild, free and skillful. I also loved the storyline that she is actually hunting the beast. But the thing I hate is that the beast actually killed her father.

I feel like Beauty, in this novel, lacks the sense of loyalty. Her father is literally the only parents she has and she is actually her father's most favorite child. She shouldn't have fell for her father's murderer.

Now I know it wouldn't be beauty and the beast if didn't fell in love with the beast. So I just wished that the beast didn't kill her father.

Also, Scarlet in the Lunar Chronicles series is a good book. It's a mix of Beauty and the Beast and the original tale of Little Red Riding Hood

As Old as Time By Liz Braswell and Lost In A Book By Jennifer Donnelly are both great retellings of Beauty and the Beast. They both have the same general story concept (Belle is held captive by the Beast), but they are retellings, so they both have different small changes that completely change the plots.

Lost In A Book is about Belle being able to escape into a book into different time periods, and she has to uncover why.

As Old as Time is a retelling detailing if Belle’s mother cursed the Beast, and the Beast and Belle have to unravel the mystery of their families. (Some of the details at the end are pretty dark, but the plot change overall is more fitted to the story verses the original movie)

Liz Braswell has written many Disney retellings if you enjoy them.
