I'd suggest you go with The Harry Potter series. Enid Blyton or Judy Blume are also good ones for starters.

My favorite books I read during my school years (though not necessarily for school) were Son of the Mob (Gordon Korman) and the Uglies series (Scott Westerfeld).

Here is a list of books I read in high school English classes that I loved: To Kill A Mockingbird, Flowers for Algernon, Lord of the Flies, 1984, Slaughterhouse-Five, A Clockwork Orange, Farenheit 451, Of Mice and Men, The Catcher in the Rye. This is not an exhaustive list, but these are some stand-outs.

Some books that are great for teens are The Hunger Games, Perks of Being a Wallflower, The Fault in our Stars, the Divergent series, and the Selection series. I loved all of those books.
