Les Miserable by Victor Hugo is one of the best history fiction novel I've ever read. It taught me a lot about the French history.

Alice I Have Been is the story of the real Alice in Wonderland. It's set at Oxford College in the 19th century.

Another is The Girl who Came Home. It's a novel of the Titanic. It alternates between a Titanic survivor and her great-granddaughter points of view.
