Death note book vs. movie

Post by Bagd085 »

Death note book is great and I love it a lot and a big fan of it but the movie I have to say it was a nice try to make a movie out of it but personally I think it is complete GARBAGE and that they should stop making mangas into movies unless the movie is actually going to be good.

The movie was extremely underwhelming for me too. It had potential, but I honestly got bored.

Death Note was great as a book, but the movie is completely off-putting. Not worth a watch.

I haven't actually read Death Note, so I'm not sure if the anime was closely aligned to the manga (I read Volumes 1 & 2 and they seemed to be superbly close), so from watching the anime I would say that the movie is definitely trash. Everything that I loved from the anime was completely ruined in the movie. The beginning of that stems from the white-washed characters, but they completely disregarded everything that was brilliant about L and Light.

I only watched the anime, but I am about to finally start reading the manga. For me, the adaptation was a disaster. Of course, it was an american version, so the cast is different, but it is not okay to change the major personality traits of the main characters. Light was supposed to be cruel and manipulative, but in the movie he's a crybaby and the girl was actually the more insane one, and the characters' personalities were inconsistent? Some changes are okay, but if you're changing everything - from characters to even the symbolic means (talking about the apple), please don't call it Death Note.
As a stand-alone it wouldn't have been good, but better.

The live-action Netflix adaptation was horrendous. I loved the anime.

I prefer the book although the movie seemed great with great actors on it.

I thoroughly enjoyed Death Note, but the movie was disappointing. I was so excited to see Ryuk interpreted as a live action character, but they kept him so cloaked in darkness the whole time that you could barely see him. It made him a very ineffectual character.

I think Ryuk was the only good part of the movie. William DeFoe was the perfect voice actor, and his animation was done well.

I choose the anime over both of them, although there were some serious tear jerker parts as well.

Generally, most movies are a far cry from the books they are made from. And this was no exception.

I never read the book, but I watched both the anime and the movie and let me tell you, the movie was a total flop.

I think the live-action movie sucked. The CGI was not good, and the characters were horrendous, and everything else is just absolutely terrible—very terrible.
