That said, I suppose we have to take account of the fact that TV and film are different mediums from the written word. Consequently, distortion is inevitable. Furthermore, familiarity with one version leaves you with inflated expectations of another version. Effectively, we often set ourselves up for disappointment as a result.

Are you serious?! I thought I was watching the 'prude-friendly version' because of the site I was on, and I spent ages trying to find the uncut version. When I couldn't find the 'proper one', I gave up in a hissy fit. I really wanted to see that elevator scene.

I totally agree with you. The books were great and I love them however the movies were nothing like books. I remember reading the first three books before the first movie came out; I was actually excited to see it. After watching that I debated whether to even read the fourth book because the movie had ruin my experience for the whole series.
