I can't think of 5, but 2 States by Chetan Bhagat was replicated very well. It was made into a movie of the same name.

Bridges of Madison County. Meryl Streep and Clint Eastwood were brilliant together in this one!

I agree with many of the postings before me.
The Martian
Lord of the Flies

But I would like to add two books that I enjoyed MORE as movies:
Forrest Gump
Ben-Hur

Honestly, I have never seen an adaptation that gave justification to how great the book(s) is. Maybe its because i expect too much i dont know. But thats me

The Sense and Sensibility adaptation by Emma Thompson is pretty remarkable when it comes to books into movies, as well as a stand alone film :techie-studyingbrown:

It's not in theaters yet (August 15!), but I really hope that "Crazy Rich Asians" by Kevin Kwan turns out well.

Still Alice by Lisa Genova is an excellent book and one that I thought would be difficult to translate on the screen, as the book relies on the main character's inner thoughts. The actress Julianne Moore does a great job, however, in the movie adaptation. The book and movie succeed in evoking the heartbreaking reality of early onset Alzheimer's.
