Books CAN be good movies...sometimes

Post by BookClubQueen »

Okay,
Here is something that has been interesting to me lately - what great books have you read that have turned into really great movies?

Or what great books have you read that have turned into really AWFUL movies?

I'll tell you mine (if you tell me yours!)

Great book to Great movie
Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil book and movie are very different but both fantastic. Movie is well done - the book is a hard act to follow b/c it's so great!

Great book to AWFUL movie
A Series of Unfortunate Events (have taught this book to middle schoolers and LOVE the writing style. HATED the movie!

So what are yours?

I always like seeing books that I have read as movies. It's fun to see the story acted out on screen. Of course, I think the books are always better than the movies.

I agree. The harry potter series of movies is good but nowhere near as captivating as the books.

I agree some books make great films, but am i the only person who thought The Shining made a much better read than a film?

I think it's safe to say the book is going to be better 99.9% of the time, but it is still fun to see a book I loved come to life. I will always give the movie a chance.

Gone With the Wind was turned into a good movie, but the sequel Scarlet should have been left as a book.

Eragon- book was really good and also the following books in the series, however the movie was quite different to the book and was a bit complicated to follow.

I find that if I watch the movie first, it seems the movie is better. But if I've read the book, the book is. After seeing The Hobbit, I was so disappointed because the book is so much better. I think Gone With the Wind is definitely a good movie and book.

True, especially if the people who portrayed the characters in the books played their roles superbly. I can get use to it.

To Kill a Mockingbird was a great book, and the movie was done well. There are others, I'm sure, but that's the first one to pop up in my brain.
Life without a good book is something MrsCatInTheHat cannot imagine.

You know what book to movie was amazing - A Scanner Darkly. It was SO well done. I believe that was because the author's daughter was on the project to make sure of it.
