The Burton one was visually stunning but that's it. It was too dark and creepy. That was just Hollywood trying to capitalize on the make kid's movies creepy trend they had going there for a few years. That Willy Wonka was ultra creepy.

Tim Burton's movie is completely different. The book and the movie are two different stories. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
