It was okay. I thought that del Toro was trying to do too much, and I really need to read the novelization to get what the film was missing. However, I did enjoy the concept.

I weirdly couldn't get into it. I didn't understand why it had to be so grotesque. And I didn't find it believable that Octavia Spencer's character would get involved. It also equated the main character's disability with childishness to me, and that rubbed me the wrong way.

Guillermo del Toro's films are always worth-watching - "The Shape of Water" isn't an exception. The only thing that bothered me is the female lead character's masturbation scenes during bath time.

I would be interested in reading the novel. Probably I could have handled that better. The film was just too random and obscure for me. I can't believe I sat through the whole thing actually.

i was interested in watching it upon seeing the trailer but when I watched it, there were several unanswered questions like why the woman's neck was sliced and I dont get the need of having a love story in the movie. for me, it is not necessary. they could have been just friends and as a gratitude of the "God Fish" healed her vocal cords. It just lack the story.

The film wasn't what I was expecting and I've added the book to my list of books to read (which is already extensive).

I had better expectations about the film but in general I liked it, it had me trapped all the plot and although other people consider it aberrant I found cute and sweet the relationship of both. Otherwise I never considered the possibility that there was a book, it would be interesting to look for it, thanks for the data.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. It was the first time, I could readily understand why a film had won an Oscar.

I'm coming to understand more movies are based off books than I previously realized.

I'm in the minority of people that really did not enjoy the film and I wasn't even able to get all the way through it before turning it off.

This movie was a masterpiece...I mean I love all of Guillermo del Toro's movies, so I'm probably a tad bit partial. Nevertheless, it is a beautiful movie and takes you to new world and let's you immerse in it...

I'm off to buy the novel right after typing this!

I adored the movie of The Shape of Water. The levels of acting and the fantastic details of Eliza's muteness brought the movie to a level of cinema I rarely see. Especially, the soft touch of the love growing between Eliza and the River God. To me, they showed the understanding and the complexities of the creature well before anything that could be called inappropriate happened. Their love isn't the case of a woman having a relationship with a pet, it is two consenting adults.

I deeply loved the film, and I am excited to read the novel!
