A Monster Calls and Dark Tower. I didn't even know those were books until I saw the movie; I haven't made it around to reading the books yet, but they are for sure on my Want to Read list.

Harry Potter, I went to a bookstore and saw it's first official book. At first I didn't really care about it until i saw a movie with the same title and watched it. Back then I prefer reading first before watching so I bought the book and read it then played the movie.

Not sure if I’m doing this right, or if there’s a right/wrong way…but I recently watched Sully, based on Flight 1549, miracle on the Hudson, January 15, 2009. The movie was so real, it made me research the book and order it, now I’ve started reading it! Will give a review when I finish. But I strongly recommend the movie at this point…

I have two that immediately come to mind, White Oleander and Water for Elephants.

As for the first, when I originally watched the movie, I didn't realize it was a book until I found the book sitting at a used book store. Since I loved the movie, I knew I needed to read the book, and oh how that book destroyed the movie! The movie completely twisted and turned the story in some of the most horrible ways! Taking away the strength of female characters and completely white-washing the movie.

Water for Elephants, the book, is also one I picked up after watching the movie. It was very different, so different that the movie didn't bother me. They are almost more like different stories that have a lot of similarities, than a movie based on a book.

You never know if the movie is going to do a good job, and, from my experience, the movies are usually (though not always!) a let down, even if I see he movie before reading the book.

Which movies made you want to read the book?

I saw the movie "The Hunger Games". I loved the movie and decided to read the book after. I really liked the movie but absolutely loved the book. I know you can fit but so much in a movie based on a book in trying to keep the length of the movie within a decent time frame, but I felt they left out some very much needed detail that the book presented. I loved the book so much that I read the next book in the series before watching the movie.

Embarrassing, but... "Fight Club." The film is just as fantastic as the book, life changing . Still, the only thing I feel that I ever missed out on in life was not discovering the book before the film.

Also, Jim Jarmusch's amazing "Ghost Dog" led me to the "Hagakure." Bonus.
