Harry Potter was a big one for me. I saw the first movie and as soon as it ended I went searching to see if it came from a book. One of the best series ever, I waited impatiently each year for each new book and I sighed a great big unhappy sigh when I finished it.

After watching the first two Hunger Games films, I decided to start reading the books because they were just so good!

Stephen King adaptations like the Shining, It, and Shawshank Redemption made me put a lot of his books on my to-read shelf. Seeing The Color Purple made me want to read that book as well (which I'm halfway finished with).

The Lord of the rings series made me go for the books.
I try to always read the books first though.

Gone Girl. I loved the tension in that movie. I still have yet to read the book but it's on my "to read" list.

Hunger Games. The first movie especially was so well done. I definitely would love to read about this universe. It's on my list.

Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children. I've seen the movie and I enjoyed watching it. I've known the book even before they turned it into a movie and I've been wanting to read it but haven't had the opportunity to buy a copy.

The Martian, by Andy Weir. Saw the movie first, starring Matt Damon and directed by Ridley Scott. The movie really captured the personality and plot created by Weir, but I preferred Weir's ending.

I always try to read the book before I see the movie before I see the film because if the film lets me down I won't read the book but if I love the movie I read the book. I am a member of a book club and we went as a group to see The Jane Austen Book Club - I really wanted to read the book but simply ran out of time. I loved the movie so much I rushed out and got the book and read it.

I don't mind a movie being different from a book I realize that you can not put in a movie what you can in a book.Harry Potter was the movie that made me read the entire series ...
