Are any of the Roald Dahl movies worth watching?

I absolutely love (as does my 8 year old) Matilda, James and the Giant Peach, the original Willy Wonka with Gene Wilder, AND BFG!

There are dark spots in almost all of them, but I actually like that, more so because the overall feel and theme of the films stay positive and enjoyable.

It's very similar to how I see life! lol

You should definitely watch the witches. The make up and costumes are so realistic! :D

While the movie adaptation of Matilda differs slightly from the original book, it is still a charming adventure and Mara Wilson is perfectly cast in the role. The Trunchbull is also cast brilliantly and is played with ferociousness by Pam Ferris who is completely transformed into the hammer throwing headmistress.

There is also an animated version of The BFG released in 1989 which is fantastic and rather frightening at times (especially with the animation of the cruel giants and the Queen's nightmare), but is well worth a watch. I haven't seen the new version but it looked fairly decent from the reviews.

The Witches genuinely frightened me as a child, the visuals are quite shocking and are quite true to the descriptions in the book, so it's a good one for Hallowe'en!

The original Charlie and the Chocolate Factory is awesome. Gene Wilder is the perfect Willy Wonka.

I loved Roald Dahl books growing up. Charlie and the chocolate factory was awesome. Johnny depp did wonderful.
We're all puppets, Laurie. I'm just a puppet who can see the strings - Doctor Manhattan.

I watched Matilda. It's pretty good and the visual effects are stunning considering the year it was made. I love it.

I adore the books. However, the movies aren't quite up to par. Unfortunately, they fell off and tge quality is below the standard of the books. I wouldn't recommend.

If I should recommend, it will be Charlie and the chocolate factory.
