Who waits to finish the book before going to see the film?

I do, almost every time. I need to be able to capture the story in my own mind and imagination first before watching a movie adaptation, where visuals make it nearly impossible for your own imagination to grow.

My mom has made me read the book first since I was a kid, and I am still a stickler about it! It is hard to finish a book then see the film the same day, movies and books are such a different way to tell a story that sometimes films feel disappointing after just finishing the book. I try to finish a novel in plenty of time that makes the film finally coming out exciting.

I always try to read the books before seeing the movie it’s just you can bring a book more to life in your imagination than what they put on screen & they are not always faithful to the books.

I would try and read a book first. However, there have been times when I've watched a TV Show or a movie that I didn't originally know was based on a book. If I enjoyed the movie or thought it was an interesting premise, then that makes me want to read the book after. Or other times, the book came out when I was too young and I didn't pick it up before watching a movie. For example, when I was younger, my family may have had on a movie based on Stephen King, at the time I was too young to read any Stephen King novels. When I got older, I rewatched some movies based on King's novels and enjoyed them so decided to read King's books.

In the beginning of every year, I try to list the movies that are going to be adapted from books. And it's not my plan to watch the movie, but just read the book if possible. To keep up with the times, I guess.

It is a must for me to read the full book before I go see the movie! I need to have an understanding of the characters and an idea of the emotions I will possibly go through, I need to be prepared with tissues so I'm not sniffling through the movie. The only problem with reading the book first is I'm always disappointed in the movie, the book is always better! Maybe I'm just a tough critic, but I prefer the images from my imagination than the produced version.

if you see the movie before the book, it's probably better, there's only so much that can be contained in a movie but the book is richer

Honestly, reading the book before watching the movie gets my hopes up and sometimes I end up being disappointed so nowadays I'd rather watch the movie, then read the book. At least if I didn't like the movie, there's a better chance that the book will redeem itself.

I try to, honestly. The only one I can remember not finishing was Gone Girl. The movie came out and I saw it with a coworker. The only day we could make work was when I was about half way through the book. And, boy, did I get several surprises during that one!

Ohhh, I constantly do this. Back when Vampire Academy was adapted into film, I read the entire 7 book series in a week because I didn't want to go without finishing the series first. I've had problems in the past with only reading the first book in a series that was adapted into film, only to watch the movie and be spoiled for the following books (ex. Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children). Its always disappointing when that happens, so if a series is adapted to film or television, I read all of it before watching.
