The movie was surprisingly well made. It has flaws, just like any other but compared to other adaptations I believe they succeeded in making a worthy movie. I haven't yet read the whole book, but it's still interesting to compare the two. This time they got the right actors which I believe is what made the move successful. However, I think the book will still be better.

The book is an absolute classic, no question about it, so that is pretty untouchable as the winner between the two. However, I thought the movie was well-done. DiCaprio did a fine job in the role of Gatsby. I'm not a big fan of Tobey Maguire, so that was a low point for me. But, the cinematography was fantastic and helped to bring this beautiful era to life.

I adore the movie. I haven't read the book though. Was it really that good?

I enjoyed both films, but I think the more recent one is better. However, though I'm a huge fan of Carey Mulligan, I think her Daisy was too nice (of course, that may have been Luhrmann's choice, not hers. I liked the way the film brought out queries about Nick Carraway's mental state (it appears to start in a drying-out clinic) but it's inevitable that you lose that first-person-narrator perspective, which is what makes the book so distinctive. The book is more subtle and more rich.

I think it's very hard to bring a classic novel such as this to life. The actors did a brilliant job portraying the characters and the cinematography was superb. However, I found the soundtrack fairly odd. There were certain scenes that featured rap music which really took me out of the setting. For this reason, I feel the novel will always be my favorite.

F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby was written and published in the 1920’s, during the dynamic “Roaring Twenties,” and when America launched into the industrial age. A timely piece for post-World War 1, Fitzgerald composed a novel framed in the style consistent with mixed narrative, culminating in the vivid materialistic world that would dot the landscape of America.

I think I prefer the book just because not everything in the book was in the movie and I have weird quirks for noticing things like that.

I've read The Great Gatsby and Tramalcio and then watched the movie and it's always fun to watch how opulent and garish Gatsby tries to be.

Definitely, the book, though I do like both of the films I've seen (Redford and DiCaprio versions). I was really impressed with DiCaprio's portrayal of Gatsby.

have to say the book! The Great Gatsby is really detailed and mysterious, great for your imagination. though the movie wasn't all that bad.

I Loved both the book and movie. It was the first time in a long time that a movie and book were so much alike. It was such a good book and the movie kept my interest.

I love how close the movie was to the book! It was satisfying to see it portrayed so faithfully, it was like seeing my idea of what was happening in the book played on the screen

I love both but I can't say no to the movie. The extravagant house and party, the imagery is amazing. And of course the old boy Leo is a plus. Its a truly sad story.
