Thinner was a great Stephen King book, but the movie felt so lackluster to me. I had no connection to it whatsoever and it's made me stop watching Stephen King movies for fear they'll ruin his books.

I think I agree with another person on here, I think most books lend themselves to be made into movies, it just depends on the director, producer and actors on whether a movie is successful.

I think that the movies that are the most successful have been ones where the director/screenplay writers have consulted with the author to find out their vision. It's the ones that have just been more worried about making the book fit within the movie time frame or budget that have really fallen short. That's just my opinion.

1. Beloved

2 Native Son

3. For Colored Girls

4. The Scarlett Letter

5.The Da Vinci Code
Those are all tough to adapt, though some of them are worse than others. The books were all good (Da vinci Code was good idea but kind of weak execution, especially if you read his other books and realize he writes one story over and over again with different characters each time).

Definitely agree with The Hobbit. The first one was pretty good, but by two and three it seems the makers of the films had no idea what the appeal of Tolkien's books is. The whole thing just felt like a huge cash grab. Another one that peeved me was Mockingjay. As one of the five people who actually loved the last book I think they butchered the finale and took away the punch from the story.

I may be the only person who will say this but I don't think that the Fifty Shades of Grey series should have been made into movies simply because the movies sucked. I find that most movies made from books aren't really that good. I suppose it is because they can't fit in all the details that the book has in such a short amount of time.

1. Twilight. That was just awful.
2. The Golden Compass. Such a great series. Such an awful movie.
3. One for the Money.

I Am Legend. As an adaptation, it completely missed the point of the book.

I found the Swiss Family Robinson was not portrayed well in the movie. Although most people enjoyed the movie, the book is much better.

I second the calls on Eragon and the Twilight Saga. I read the entire series of Eragon, but when I saw the movie it was only thirty minutes long! How can you take a book that is hundreds of pages and make it into a movie of half an hour. I also read all of the Twilight books and the movies just seemed to be a money grab at teenage girls. I also disagreed with many of the actor choices and the special effects.

For me it was Coraline by Neil Gaiman. The movie adaptation was not that captivating nor entertaining. I don't know whether the movie Coraline was a flop or not. But it was boring.

I agree that The Da Vinci Code movie didn't give justice to the book. I fell asleep while watching it. And to think that I am a Tom Hanks fan. The film Angels and Demons was much better though.

I suppose it is difficult to condense some books into two hours of film. Da Vinci by Dan Brown is one good example.

Northern Lights by Phillip Pullman. The book is part of a trilogy and I feel it is too complex and controversial to have been made into a movie. Hence why they stopped at one movie and never continued the story, although I did enjoy watching the Golden Compass.
