Parts of the LOTR series (especially the war scenes) were captured much better on screen. That said, the story was presented in a far more involved manner in the books and set the stage for modern fantasy.

I love all books written by Stephen King. But I think the movie Misery starring Kathy Bates was much better than the novel Misery. Kathy Bate's portrayal of the main character, Annie Wilkes, was far more disturbing than anything I could imagine. It is still one of my favorite movies.
Any book that helps a child to form a habit of reading, to make reading one of his deep and continuing needs, is good for him.

I saw the movie "A walk to Remember" first before I knew it was a book. I was pretty young when the movie came out I think I'm the 6th grade. I instantly fell in love with the movie!!! It still is my fav to this day. I just bought the book. Few weeks ago and read it and I have to say in my opinion, the movie was waaay better. I looooove Mandy Moore as Jamie and Shane west as Landon and I can't picture anyone else!!!

I hope no one gets too angry when I say...

Nicholas Sparks' movies are always WAY BETTER than his books.

I struggle with why so many of his stories make it to film, because I am just not a fan of him as a writer. However, I will say, his book "The Lucky One" was very good, as was the movie. Enjoyed both immensely. "Safe Haven" was an ok book, better movie. "The Notebook" was a terribly depressing book, but an enjoyable film.

'13 Reasons Why' is actually a seasonal movie, but is a whole lot better and even more realistic than the book.

I have to agree that for Gone Girl the movie was better.

AliceofX wrote: 14 Aug 2017, 19:20 Fight Club and Psycho were both disappointing reads when compared to how great the movies were. Also Twilight comes to mind. The first movie I actually kind of like, but that might just be me being a Catherine Hardwicke fan. The book on the other was almost impossible to get through after the first half was over.
I didn’t know that Psycho was from a novel ! Disappointing as it may be, I would like to get my hands on a copy if just to have read it once.

I haven't come across a film that was better than their books but I might exclude "The Fault In Our Stars". I have read the book and have watched the film and I was not able to compare them.

I don't know if anyone would agree with me but I love the movie "Twilight" (the first installment only) way more than the book itself. For me, the movie has an air of mystery... a romantic mystery that provides depth to the main characters. While in the book, they were always kissing and saying love stuffs most of the time when they're together so the mystery in itself is missing.

It would be Lord of the Rings Trilogy for me.

You're 100 percent right, the books for some reason are not that good when compared to the movies.

Apocalypse Now. The Vietnam war adaptation really made the story more interesting. Heart of Darkness was disappointingly boring.
