Examples: The Lovely Bones (Alice Sebold) is a book to movie that I watched and thought "wow this would have been an amazing BOOK" then found it was actually a book.

You. Netflix series. Obviously an intense thriller. "Hidden Bodies" by Caroline Kepnes is the book in which the series is based on. Now THAT would have been a great read..

What were you disappointed about watching before reading???

Just curious. Why wouldn't you read the book, even after having watched the movie first? Books are usually better than their film adaptations. I enjoyed reading The Lovely Bones as it evoked many emotions which the film could not fully capture.

At first I saw the movie wonder. I didn't know it was a book until I found "based on a book" on title screen. Then after watching the whole movie I like it and I bought the book and read it

Yes same here, loved both the book and the movie.

The movie is great fun and does a good job of discussing topics of masculinity in an interesting and visually appealing way. The book is similarly weird but this was one of those cases where I think the movie just did it better, it was a story well suited for film in my opinion.
I totally agree with you. The book, in my opinion is poorly written. The movie, the story is a masterpiece, but the book...it was the first time when i was actually disappointed by the book

We Need to Talk About Kevin, You (netflix Series), Into The Wild. All of these were surprises too me! I’ve read the book Your was based on and it was equally as good, in my opinion.

Assassin's Creed. I knew it was a video game series, but I did not know that there had been 10 books written about it!

Once upon a time, I was so socially disconnected from everything when I was a teen, that I didn't know the movie HARRY POTTER was based on a book.

Harry Potter, quite unbelievable for some people, but I was a kid when the movie was released and I wasn't into reading books.

The Bad Guys

As far as I remember, it wasn't mentioned in the advertising that it's based on a book series.

Yeah! Life of pie for some reason I feel the movie is better than the book

I'm embarrassed to admit that I didn't realize Clueless was actually based on Jane Austen's Emma. That was a sad day for me.

Drive Me Crazy, the movie starring Melissa Joan Hart (Sabrina) and Adrian Grenier (Entourage), is from a book called How I Created My Perfect Prom Date. I think this one is surprising because they titled it after a song rather than the book itself.
