What is your favorite pie?

Post by Lil Reads »

We have a thread for favorite cookies, but not pie.

Are you a fan of savory pies? Sweet pies?

For savory, I love a meat and vegetable pot pie. I'm not really picky about which meat, but it needs plenty of vegetables and I prefer to use a lighter sauce, sometimes using milk and spices, sometimes low sodium broth. Only top crust or potatoes; not a top and bottom layer.

For sweet, strawberry rhubarb! I got to try it once and it was so refreshing because it wasn't too sweet. Dutch apple is also pretty tasty too.

I like meat pies myself. Not really a fan of sweet pies, probably because I did not grow up eating them.

I like shepherd's pie/cottage pie which I do make somewhat regularly. Partner loves it too, but he eats too much.

Since I stopped eating wheat, I've not eaten pastry pies but I have found gluten-free pastry in the store. It's expensive so I don't normally buy it.

I like chicken pot pie too.

Re sweet pies: I have eaten apple strudel/apple pie which I did like. But not too much sugar :I just don't like overly sweet pies. Don't think it would be good for my blood sugar either.

Yes, a vegetable pot pie!! My favorites are pumpkin, sweet potato, or a cherry pie. I'm always craving any of those at a given time, but I haven't had any pies in a few years. 😑

I actually didn't really start getting into savory pies until I lived in Europe. Now I'm hooked. Any place that serves a good looking savory pie, I'm ready to try it. There was a little restaurant in the back of this tiny, really old pub in Connemara that served the most delicious fish pie. I crave that fish pie to this day.

As for sweet pies, I always go back to my American roots and go with pumpkin pie with whipped cream. It's hard to get canned pumpkin out here in Ireland though, so I've had to learn how to make use an actual pumpkin. If I get too lazy, in the fall, there's a cafe in town that just so happens to server pumpkin pie because the owner's wife is American. I always savor it!

Can't decide between strawberry, apple, or coconut cream pie. They're all very sweet and tasty, especially with whipped cream. :)

I love all pies! My favorites include pecan pie and custard pies. Since I am a math need, I celebrate pi day (March 14) at work every year. This past March, I brought in mini apple pies made with wonton wrapper crusts.

I like the sweet pies. Apple, peanut butter cream, peach, and sour cream raisin are the ones I like most.
