I imagine the saying is true for some, and not true for others. I know it's true for myself. If you feed me, particularly when I'm hungry, you'll quickly become my best friend. :D

I think it is true to some extent. I think it is (1) comforting to know that someone cares for them enough to want to see them well fed, and thus (2) they end up feeling cared for. Though, it is also how they are treated, and it is often said that a man ultimately (after the initial attraction) falls for a woman based on how that woman makes them feel, so, it would be pointless to fix all their favorite foods and then nag them to death, or belittle, etc. I think food is piece in the puzzle, not the entire picture.

I am a widow, and am currently single (happily), so at this point in my life, I am cooking what I like (or my kids), and not for a significant other.

I have a tendency to feel guilty when people cook for me and I love doing it myself, so not in this case. The way to my heart is having a razor wit.

I believe in that sometimes, but I also believe there are quicker better ways to a man's heart =)
Maybe that just means I'm not the best cook though, it's true I don't make much but that's alright.

I think feeding someone can be a great expression of love, but perhaps I'm just trying to romanticize the amount of time I spend in the kitchen. My husband loves tuna poke and any kind of salad. He also goes crazy for tofu, which is pretty strange for a blue-collar guy.

For me, this saying is true. Not only my husband was impressed how the food I cooked was delicious but how independent I am. He knows that even when his far, I can live on my own and can take care of our family. He has lots of favorite food but he likes best my Chicken Afritada.

Ingredients :
1- 1/2 lbs chicken, cut into serving size or chicken chunks
1 large potato, chunks
1 large carrot, chunks
1 medium red bell pepper, chunks
1 medium onion, chunks
1/4 cup green peas (or frozen peas)
4 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 can 8 oz tomato sauce
1 1/4 cup water
1 tbsp fish sauce
salt to taste
3 tbsp cooking oil

HOW TO COOK :
- Heat cooking oil in a pan or wok.
- Saute potatoes, carrots & bell pepper then set aside.
- Using the same pan, saute garlic & onion.
- Add the chicken (I usually used chicken chunks). Simmer for 10-15 minutes or until tender. (occasional stirring).
- Add fish sauce & cook for 3 mins.
- Add water when it starts to dry up. Bring to boil.
- Add tomato sauce. Let it simmer.
- Combine all the vegetables & simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Remove from heat & transfer to serving bowl.
- Best serve with hot steamed white rice

It's definitely been true for me, though I just enjoy making my SO a special breakfast some weekends. He loves it, and I enjoy doing it, so it's worked out. I tend to make a basic cheese omelette or pancakes/waffles. I find that the pancake mix doesn't really do it for us, so I usually look up a recipe online to try.
I know when my mom met her boyfriend he fell in love with her cooking; his wife hadn't done anything like that when they were married so it meant a lot to him that she spoiled him. His favorite is her salmon patties. She just gets canned salmon, molds it into a patty, gets it covered in bread crumbs, and fries it in a skillet. It makes the whole house smell like fish, but it's soo good.
