I feel like I recommend it in response to every question, but I think The Joy of Cooking is a great resource for cooks of all skill levels. It breaks down how to cook different kinds of dishes, how to treat ingredients, even how to properly measure and prepare things. It is also really easy to find used (I think I find a copy every rummage sale I go to). I still reference Joy now and I have been cooking since I was three.

I will recommend something easy and straight forward. You should try Joy of cooking or YouTube. You will get so many recipes there!
