Cookbook anthologies can be a great reference. Something like The Joy of Cooking, where each section begins with a discussion about the ingredient or type of recipe being covered, can be really useful if it is a technique you are unfamiliar with. For example, take a person who has never made muffins and wants to try baking blueberry muffins. They can read the section about quick-breads, the section about muffins, the section about fruit muffins, and then the tips on blueberry muffins specifically. Cookbooks can be a great resource!

Delia Smith’s Complete How To Cook is brilliant, she goes right back to basics like boiling eggs. You can’t go wrong.

The only cookbook that I follow is one that my mom got from her grandma. For new recipes I usually go to Pinterest.

No, I really never have had to. I might look something up when I come across a recipe using a special cooking technique, but never have "read" a cookbook.

No. I have never read that cook-book. Most times I try to create my own dishes. Some recipes I got online.

I generally think of something I want to make and find a few recipes for that thing online, which I compare to create my own version based on what ingredients I can get my hands on.

When I got married, my step-mom gave me a very basic cookbook. It had things like baked chicken and mashed potatoes. Since I had virtually no cooking skills, it probably saved my husband from starvation.

Yes and yes. The first time that I ever used a cook book, the food looked great but tasted horrible. The food I made was fried rice but my siblings and I ate it all the same.
