I started at a young age all I remember was that I was standing in a chair in my grannies kitchen watching her bake a cake and it went on from there. Now by the time I was 11 I was making full course meals for the family and still to this day at 44 I still love to cook

I was in high school when I started boiling eggs, making tuna salad, and making toast :o BUT when I was about 19 I started taking cooking more seriously.

Probably 12 or 13. My dad was always big on cooking and helping us make breakfast on Saturday mornings.

I began cooking around the age of 10 as well, but it wasn't by choice. Our family dynamic shifted as a result of drug and alchohol abuse, and I was the oldest sibling living at home, so the job fell on me. One would think I would associate cooking with feelings of abandonment, but I don't. I'm partial to the distraction, and it's something I enjoy. Forced independence births numerous avenues of escapism. Lucky for me, most of my escapes were at least healthy and beneficial to my character development.

I started young, maybe age 7? My parents were both in the military and usually, one or the other was deployed. We all helped out but as the oldest, I did some of the more complicated things, like cooking, earlier than my sisters.

I had my boys in the kitchen with me when they were about 4 - simple things, right? Stirring, pouring, stuff like that.

I have experienced many instances as a child when my mother won't allow me to enter the kitchen. For what I am sure of is I officially started cooking at home at age 13 although sometimes I won't because of going back to boarding school.
